On behalf of the Elektrizitätswerk Zürich (ewz), we launched a project to strengthen the company’s internal safety culture. In their daily work, the teams are exposed to major hazards such as high voltage, heavy machinery or traffic. In this environment, a risk-conscious safety culture can save lives, prevent accidents and help avoid damage. The aim of the project was to examine the current handling of, for example, accidents that nearly occured in order to identify options for action. In a second step, work teams and management worked out how to strengthen the safety culture. This was based on existing knowledge from science, but above all from practice.
