DemoUpCARMA

DemoUpCARMA (Demonstration and Upscaling of CARbon dioxide MAnagement solutions for a net-zero Switzerland) is a pilot project led by ETH Zurich. It aims to demonstrate the implementation and scaling of two pathways leading to negative emissions. One is CO2 utilization and permanent storage in primary and recycled concrete in Switzerland using a novel technology, the other is CO2 transport and permanent storage in a geological reservoir abroad.

As part of DemoUpCARMA, Risiko- Dialog is conducting a stakeholder mapping exercise with the aim of capturing the perspectives, concerns and needs of relevant stakeholders in Switzerland and Europe regarding the transport and long-term storage of CO2 and feeding them into the research project – as well as developing recommendations for communication around comparable projects.

The project itself examines how these pathways need to be optimally designed and can be scaled up in the medium to long term, taking into account technological, economic, regulatory, political and societal aspects. Negative emissions are an essential part of reducing Switzerland’s greenhouse gas emissions to net-to-zero by 2050 and achieving the country’s climate goals.
