Q&A Carbon Dioxide Removal in Switzerland

Global climate change is a challenge for the Schwiez region. The effects of this are already endangering livelihoods, health and well-being worldwide. With the ratification of the Paris Agreement, Switzerland has also committed itself to limiting global warming to well below 2° Celsius compared to pre-industrial times. In this context, the Federal Council has adopted a net zero target for greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. By doing so, Switzerland is taking responsibility for its emissions. Removing CO2 from the atmosphere and then storing it for the long term can play a crucial role in climate protection. But how does CO2 removal and storage actually work? Is this already being used today? And what do our laws say about it?
In order to strengthen the public debate on negative emission technologies in Switzerland, Risiko-Dialog, with the support of the Federal Office for the Environment, created a comprehensive Q&A and a beginner-friendly short publication. The result is 18 questions and answers about CO2 removal and storage (CDR) methods. Read the Q&A here on CDR’s website.
